My 1st interpretation.

Feedback: get rid  of colliding websites.

After the feedback I had to re-evaluate how I could  clearly present information overload through video in an interesting transition. I was clearly going in the wrong direction with visuals and the interpretations already used in films leave little to develop or reinvent.

Tried looking at text on the internet and played around with displacement of letters to form new sentences and create a world of word in a roller coaster fashion to create some tension or chaos.

Made a mock up of how I wanted this project to look like. Taking influences from Nam June Paik, who used mostly television sets to build a sculpture that represented his subjects action:

‘In 1964, Paik moved to New York, and began working with classical cellist Charlotte Moorman, to combine his video, music, and performance. In the work TV Cello, the pair stacked televisions on top one another, so that they formed the shape of an actual cello. When Moorman drew her bow across the “cello,” images of both her playing, and images of other cellists playing appeared on the screens. In 1965, Sony introduced the Portapak (Though it is said that Paik had one similar before Sony released theirs) . With this, Paik could both move and record things, for it was the first portable video and audio recorder. From there, Paik became an international celebrity, known for his creative and entertaining works.’

Although now realising that using tv monitors, although it can be visually pleasing, it does not make the message any clearer,
does not help reinforce the idea of information overload on the internet rather confuse the subject.

First try at making it clear that its information overload on the internet.

Sped up version to create more chaos. These tests have been done before so its not interesting to look at.

Tried to make the video longer to see where browsing on the internet will lead me to loose association (clicking on hyperlinks).

Tried looking at how the Matrix use of numbers could generate new ideas, however it turned out static and dead (colours and movement needs to be more vibrant giving a electronic feel and speed).

Redid the same video but added a glow effect to engage the sense of electronic buzz. Some people admitted to trying to see or find a pattern in the number breaks in the background which was interesting.

I thought about what people said about trying to find a pattern in all the number chaos so I thought I’d approach the transition with a slight difference, by using numbers as bits of information and bring the numbers out of chaos into order which forms a pattern: this was a monkey. I only used a monkey as a subject because they have intelligence to some level that’s the nearest to ours and like us they have been subjected to numerous experiments done by the human race, and just like Big Brother, we always observe them mostly in a zoo. The images is also recognisable and I’m sure one of the two reasons why I chose a monkey would have crept into the viewers mind instantly, and take time to register a meaning

Experiment with the camera loop using webcam and software window. Did not come to much use as it was hard to use browser windows to do anything more then move in a 2d plane and disappear. Could be usefull for something else.

Just an experiment to show how over time the transition from books and libaries has changed to more digital devices which such as the internet. Added static sound like an old tuning TV set to indicate change as well as distortion of the image.

Looked at the literal effects of information overload; to pop! Track credited to Michael Tan. Compression of video file on youtube has decreased, find better quality in: FMP/Videos/animation.

Linking words together through the exploration of word association often seen in Wikipedia and search machines showing relevant and irrelevant definitions from previous words. Hopefully expresses the term information overload is dumb.

Brief look into face reading in criminology and discovered that half of what Lyle Miller found out about the generic features of a criminal, is also found in what people generally dub as dumb facial features: downward slanting eyes, low and straight brow, out angled ears.

Seeing as its easy to discriminate I thought directing towards animal faces as a pun if anyone gets it would be more appropriate, and would have more meaning to the sense of feeling dumb:

Kinetic type idea I did for the the previous project-starts with one word-few other correlated words added-more associated words to the correlations-build up a network of words that eventually has no relation to the first original word. What people can experience when their on the net searching for one topic and eventually find themselves completely removed from what they wanted to look for on the internet.
