Joy

Posted on: March 1, 2010

The difference between happiness and joy is, with joy there is an inner response that is built up over a long period of time to manifest a sense of well being and satisfaction. Happiness is a short term emotion of content or pleasure that results in physical action. E.g.:

Joy – A loved one saying they are proud of you for something.

Happiness – A person buys an iPhone and they’re happy for a day, but after that it becomes nothing but a piece of metal that you use.

Adverts and companies aim at our happiness in possessions (clothes, cars etc), and information (Last.fm Scrobbler, Google etc). What struck me about the first video (Who-Fu: Tones of Everyday) was how simple the ideas were, how quirky the interaction between the people on the webcam were, coupled with a light jazzy piece.
