Hopefully looking to some experiments professionals have carried out may shine some light on things:

Halo effect: Global evaluations about a person (likable) that bleed over into judgments about their traits (intellect). An example would be Hollywood stars, with their attractiveness and likability we naturally assume they are also intelligent, friendly, display good judgment and so on. That is, until we come across evidence to the contrary.
